Traditional Knowledge

Traditional knowledge can be defined as the knowledge, skills, and practices that are created, sustained and passed on across generations in a particular community and form part of its cultural identity. This knowledge can be seen in various practices such as crafts, nutrition, and medicine. Traditional knowledge is an important aspect of individual and communal identity and as such should be protected as a form of cultural expression.

It is with this spirit that the Creative Economy Working Group working with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Sports put together the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions Act 2016.
