This training introduced participants to the protection of brands, products, and creative innovations through trademarks and industrial designs. Creatives learned what trademarks are, why they are important for distinguishing goods and services, and how names, logos, slogans, stage names, and business identities can be protected through registration.
The session explained trademark registration requirements, classification of goods and services, trademark searches, examination procedures, publication, registration, renewal, and enforcement. Participants also learned about industrial designs, including how unique visual features, patterns, packaging, product shapes, textiles, jewelry, furniture, and fashion items can be protected.
The training emphasized the importance of protecting creative assets before commercialization and provided practical guidance on navigating Kenya’s intellectual property registration systems. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how intellectual property protection can strengthen brands, create commercial opportunities, and support long-term business growth.
